Georg Jensen At Play
Georg Jensen approached craft with a sense of humility, continually reimagining and challenging the use and perception of silver. The At Play collection, introduced at 3 Days of Design in Copenhagen, builds on that spirit – bringing the house’s founding material into a more playful realm through games and small objects that place silver within the quotidian.
Into the woodlands
Stories of young Georg Jensen recount his time growing up in the village of Raadvad, a community of craftspeople north of Copenhagen. He would wander through the surrounding woodlands, exploring the nature and creatures that inhabited them. These folktales have inspired pieces from the At Play collection, from cocktail sticks adorned with woodland fauna to a snail-shaped whistle, each crafted in sterling silver.
A playful spirit
From the time he opened his atelier in 1904, shaped by the sense of exploration he had cultivated since childhood, Georg Jensen instilled a spirit of humour and play into the house. From the beginning, he approached silver with a sense of wit and curiosity, introducing animal motifs and unexpected shapes that became recurring elements throughout both his own work and that of his collaborators.
