RECYCLED SILVER

Better sourcing. Shines just as bright.

By the end of 2023, we aim for 75% of newly crafted silver jewellery to be made in recycled silver.

After hitting the 50% mark in the use of recycled silver at the end of 2022, the ongoing transition to repurposed metals reflects Georg Jensen’s increasingly sustainable approach to jewellery making. All while maintaining the exceptional quality the designs are known for.

The precious material is obtained by repurposing and refining previously mined silver. This means the value, look and feel of recycled silver jewellery is just as good as that made with mined silver. However, the process significantly lowers the amount of newly extracted resources.

Q&A ON RECYCLED SILVER

First. What is recycled silver?

The process of obtaining recycled silver involves melting and refining previously mined silver to craft brand-new jewellery designs. This is done without giving up any of the properties that make the popular metal precious and unique.

Does recycled silver look any different to mined silver?

Not at all. There is no visible difference between recycled and newly mined silver. Purity, colour and look are the same.

Is recycled silver jewellery any less valuable?

No. The process of transforming previously mined silver into new pieces of jewellery does not, in any way or form, take away from the value and purity of the mined material.

Can I expect the same quality as newly mined silver?

Absolutely. The metal is recycled to the same exact quality standards as mined silver without losing its purity or value over time. The recycled silver used to craft Georg Jensen jewellery is of the highest quality, responsibly sourced and traceable. Choosing recycled silver for your jewellery gives you the exact same quality that you have been accustomed to by Georg Jensen.

What are the benefits of using recycled silver?

Similarly to other repurposed materials, this eases our strain on valuable natural resources. By making good use of leftover silver, we prevent the extraction of new metal while crafting stand-out jewellery.

Is every Georg Jensen silver style crafted in recycled sterling silver?

We're well on our way to a full transition to recycled silver across our collections. The newly introduced Arc collection is Georg Jensen’s first to be entirely crafted in recycled sterling silver. Many more will follow.
