Steve McGugan was born in Canada in 1960 and graduated from the Art Centre College of Design in Pasadena, California. Having worked as an in-house designer at Bang & Olufson since 1982, he opened his own studio in 1988 and now works for a diverse group of companies including Georg Jensen, Bang & Olufson, Novo Nordisk, B&K Medical and Grundfos. His work has won him many accolades in both the Danish and international arenas and he is a three-time recipient of the Danish ID prize as well as the Danish Design Council’s silver medal and the German IF prize. McGugan’s work is on display as part of the permanent collection at the Museum of Modern Art in New York and the Cooper-Hewitt Museum in New York.
Now more than ever, globalism is a design force unto itself. The world has gotten smaller which makes us realise that ultimately we are all looking for the same things: efficiency, beauty, fun, something different or surprising. Steve McGugan designed a desktop accessories line for Georg Jensen that encourages us to think differently about the role and purpose of our office.
