Maria Bengtsson is a graphic designer educated from Konstfack in Stockholm. Thmoas E. Alken Møbel is educated as an industrial designer from the Danish Design School. Together they work with Georg Jensen under the name Alken & Bengtsson

 

Thomas E. Alken mDD, graduated from the Danish Design School 1997, with additional studies from The University of Art and Design in Helsinki. In 1997 he started his own design studio in Copenhagen. Since 2005 he has been head of the board for the Cabinetmakers Autumn Exhibition "SE" and he has been a member of the Professional Advisory Committee of Danish Designers mDD since 2007. In 2009 he joined the School Council at the Danish Design School in Copenhagen.

 

Thomas E. Alken still runs his own design studio in the centre of Copenhagen, close to the beautiful Botanical Gardens. The studio works with furniture- and product design as well as design advisory for Danish and international clients. Alkan describes his design studio as small but passionate, with broad expertise and big ambitions. "We believe in the power of a strong concept. Combined with a functional and beautiful form with focus on the human body and environment, our goal is to design relevant long lasting products. We optimize materials and manufacturing methods and keep a structured and open working progress"

 

Maria Bengtsson, graphic designer and illustrator, graduated from Konstfack, University of Art, Craft and Design in Stockholm, Sweden in 1997. Furthermore she completed guest studies at The University of Industrial Art, Helsinki and at The Danish Design School in Copenhagen. Maria Bengtsson was born in 1968 in Mora, Sweden - a region where nature is always present, with deep forests, lakes and mountains. And these elements remain a permanent source of inspiration in her work. Since 1998 she has been based in Copenhagen, working as a freelance graphic designer from her own studio.

 

Among the projects are design and print on glass and ceramic, as well as pattern design on textile. Larger projects are solved in cooperation with other designers, where industrial and furniture designer Thomas E. Alken is one of the more permanent partners. Maria Bengtsson has worked on numerous graphic design projects such as books, layouts, logos and graphic identities for companies and publishers, as well as creating illustrations for newspapers, books, magazines and favourately fashion illustrations.

In 2008 she established her own design studio RHG3 together with a group of peers. Housing nine designers today the studio is located in an old bakery shop in the central part of Copenhagen, close to the Botanical Gardens.
