Nina Koppel

Nina Koppel, daughter of Henning Koppel, studied textile design at Denmark’s School of Arts and Crafts. Upon graduating in 1966 she established her own workshop, and it wasn’t until the 1980’s that she followed in her father’s footsteps and began working for Georg Jensen.

Koppel’s initial designs centered around silver jewelry collections. In 1987, she designed the ring that eventually led to the development of the Fusion ring, which ushered in a new way of thinking in modern jewelry. Designed with a vision of infinite combinations, what made the Fusion collection unique was how each design fit perfectly together. This allowed the jewelry pieces to evolve along with the wearer. This was a departure in modern jewelry because it encouraged the wearer to take more of an active role in the design of their jewelry.

The Fusion collection made its debut more than 20 years ago, and due to Nina Koppel’s ability to combine simplicity with mysticism in a beautiful way, this collection is still among the most popular Georg Jensen designs still in production.

"Nina Koppel presented the wearer with a role in creating their own jewelry. By doing so, she created one of the Georg Jensen’s most loved designs."
