Dish 1343

The sense of character in Allan Scharff’s design comes through in the exaggerated movement of the forms. The artist has striven to capture the aerodynamic physiognomy of birds. In Scharff’s work studies of nature are focused on the simple details that make us recognise a form and understand its functions.

At first glance, Allan Scharff ’s Simple pieces could not be more different from the romantic, arts and craft style of Georg Jensen. However, they both spring from the same source, nature. Georg Jensen always claimed that nature was his greatest inspiration. The same is true for Scharff.

Allan Scharff began his professional career with Georg Jensen at the age of 18, where he earned an apprentice certificate as a silversmith specialised in hollowware. Since then many designs have been developed within hollowware, jewellery and glass. During the years Scharff has received many awards and his work has been widely exhibited worldwide. Today Allan Scharff works out of a studio in Copenhagen designing and executing jewellery and hollowware, many of them commissioned pieces.
